
A WICWC Cancer-Prevention Challenge
A program designed to inspire and support positive initiatives toward happier,
healthier lifestyles and cancer prevention.
Mission
The West Island Cancer Wellness Centre (WICWC) seeks to contribute to lowering
the incidence (and re-occurrence) rate of cancer on the West Island by inspiring
and supporting its citizens to make permanent, positive, and healthy lifestyle
changes.
Every 13 minutes someone is newly diagnosed
with cancer in Quebec.
The Canadian Cancer Society estimates that 45,200 new cases of cancer will be
diagnosed in Quebec (173,800 in Canada), 800 more than last year.

Vision
For the West Island Community:
• To play a part in lowering the incidences of cancer in the West Island and
increasing the overall health and well-being of our citizens
For the WICWC:
• To support the existing West Island resources that provide health and wellness
related services
• To further the WICWC’s mission of educating and supporting cancer wellness in
the West Island Community
• To raise funds to help ensure the sustainability of the WICWC
For West Island Citizens:
• To empower West Islanders to personally embark on a quest toward healthy
lifestyle changes through education, intervention, and personalized initiatives
• To provide West Islanders an opportunity to give back: through committing to
this program to improve their own wellness, they will be directly supporting
those living with cancer who are fighting to regain theirs (ForMeForYou!)
• To give back to the WICWC in their quest to support those living with cancer,
by participating in the fundraising component of this challenge
The
challenge:
1. To pledge and commit to QUIT or CHANGE an unhealthy part of your lifestyle
and REPLACE it with a healthier choice (decide what you want to change and
design your own commitment!)
For example to:

• Quit smoking |
• Lose weight |

• Give up junk food |
• Stop drinking alcohol |
|
• Stop being sedentary
|
• De-stress |
And replace it with:
|
• Eating more fruits and vegetables
|
• Learning to meditate |
|
• Eating more whole-grains
|
• Joining a support group |
|
• Daily walks |
• Frequent a religious
institution |
|
• Joining a yoga class
|
• Drink more water |
NOTE: The WICWC can provide you with a list of Community
Resources to support you, if necessary, throughout your quest to achieve
positive, healthy lifestyle changes.
2. To seek support in the form of pledges (minimum $250 total
in pledges to enter the ForYouForMe Challenge – for example: just 10 people @
$25.00 each!) –
What could be more motivating in helping
us live up to a promise to ourselves than to have family and friends invest in
our success – and to know that our quest for better health is helping those
living with cancer!
• 100% of the pledges will go DIRECTLY to the WICWC to
help provide programs, services, education, and support— for mind, body, and
spirit— to those living with cancer
• Tax receipts will be provided for all individual pledges of $25 or more
NOTE: pledgers must fill in all information on the pledge form to receive
a tax receipt
RULES:
- THE CHALLENGE: Choose the lifestyle change
pledge (make it doable and realistic - we REALLY want you to be
successful!), you’ll commit to for three months.
1.1. Community resources to assist you in your challenge can be obtained at
the WICWC
- THE GIFT: Rally your support - in the form
of pledges
2.1. The minimum entry is $250 total in pledges– for example:
just 10 people @ $25.00 each.
- THE PLEDGE: Once you’ve chosen your
challenge and received a minimum of $250.00 in gift pledges, sign the
“Healthier Me” Pact.
- THE START: Drop-off or fax your signed
“Healthier Me” Pact AND your pledge form(s) to the WICWC:

- REPORTING: You’re on the honour system –
asked only to commit to reporting progress/set-backs WEEKLY to the WICWC

- THE FINISH: All challenges and the receipt
of donation must be submitted in full to the WICWC by May 1st, 2010
6.1.
All successful challengers will receive a WICWC ForMeForYou Challenge
Certificate of Participation 6.2. The top 3 challengers to raise the most
money will each receive an amazing surprise package
